Here are the handful of ingredients that you’ll need:

  • Extra virgin olive oil — you can also use any neutral-tasting oil, like avocado oil, canola oil or vegetable oil. 
  • Apple cider vinegar — white wine vinegar or white balsamic vinegar would also work well here. 
  • Lemon juice — use freshly squeezed if you can! It has the best flavor. Lime juice would also be great here. 
  • Honey — you can also use simple syrup or agave nectar if you need a plant-based option. 
  • Blueberries — fresh is best, but defrosted frozen berries will work, too. Make sure they’re closer to room temperature.
  • Salt & pepper — to taste, of course! But trust me, you will need a little of both. 

Customizations and substitutions

Vegan dressing: Use agave nectar, maple syrup or simple syrup if you don’t want to use honey. 

Lighter dressing: This dressing is already pretty light. Use less honey and a lighter oil such as avocado oil if you want yours to be even lighter. I have not tried this, though.

How to make Blueberry Salad Dressing

Making a homemade dressing is so much easier than you’d think! 

Here’s what to do: 

Get out the blender or food processor, and measure in the olive oil, vinegar, lemon juice, honey and blueberries. 

Give it a good blend. This might take a little bit. You want them to be really smooth! 

If you don’t want the texture of the blueberry seeds and pulp, you can strain it through a fine-mesh strainer. 

Then, stir in the salt and pepper to taste, then pour over your favorite salads.
